Blood Stain Removal from Mattress

As soon as you spot a blood stain on the mattress, we recommend taking a fast and gentle approach to remove it successfully.

Pick up a microfiber cloth or paper towel, soak it in cold water, and blot the affected area—just be careful not to soak or oversaturate the mattress while you do this.

After that, pre-treat the blood stain using Vanish Oxi Action Pre-Treat Spray and Vanish 3-in-1 Shampoo, whose fast-acting formula not only lifts stains but also removes odors from deep within, leaving you with a fresh mattress once more.

Instructions:

Pre-Treat Spray

  1. Spray Vanish Oxi Action Carpet & Upholstery Pre-Treat Spray directly onto the stained area and rub gently.

  2. Leave the spray on for 5 minutes before washing as normal.

  3. Blot the blood stain, and then remove any leftover product with a clean cloth.

  4. Heavy stains may require a second application.

Stain Removal Shampoo

  1. Mix 1 part Vanish 3 in 1 Carpet & Upholstery Shampoo with 9 parts water (max temperature 40˚).

  2. Whisk the solution into a foam.

  3. Apply the foam on the stained area using a brush or sponge.

  4. Sponge the stain with the stain remover foam solution.

  5. Blot the stain every 5 minutes with a clean area of the cloth (or a new cloth) and some more cleaning solution.

  6. Use a clean cloth to blot the area dry, and allow it to dry completely for one day.

FAQs

Will cold water work better than warm water for blood stain removal?

Blood consists of proteins, and heat causes them to vibrate and clump together, making them difficult to remove. Therefore, it is important always to use cold water when cleaning blood from a mattress, clothes, or any other surface.

How often should I clean my mattress?

You should clean your mattress every 3-6 months to maintain hygiene and extend its lifespan.

Should I test the cleaner on a small area of the mattress first?

Yes, you must test the stain cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area of the mattress first to ensure it doesn’t cause any damage or discoloration. However, this step won’t be necessary if you are using an expert stain solver, such as Vanish.
